A quarter moon passed and, thankfully, no more murders or trials took place. Sunnypaw yet, remained wary and often avoided all the toms, especially Viper and Ice. This proved rather difficult though. And Sunnypaw found she was spending more and more time with Hurricanekit.

Sunnypaw was just coming back from playing with the young kit when Deathstar stormed out of the Old Oak with Herbscent. Sunnypaw crouched behind a large root.

"I'll do what i like to MY clan!" Deathstar hissed at Herbscent. "Now, I'd like to call a meeting, i have no use for petty summons." Herbscent looked as if she were about to lose her temper.

"DEATHCLAN!" Deathstar yowled. The clan came, Sunnypaw found Stonepaw.

"What's this all about?" Stonepaw mewed. Sunnypaw shrugged and looked up at the black tom who was now in the tree.

"My clan!" Deathstar meowed loudly. " I have decided on some new rules and made some decisions. Apparently i need to make a deputy." Deathstar glared at Herbscent. "Cave! You are to be deputy." He declared.

"Cave! Cave! Cave! Cave!" The clan, mostly rogues, cheered. The powerful brown tom leaped to the roots of the Old Oak.

"Silence!" Deathstar called. "I have also decided that the apprentices at this time may keep their mentors, but the one cat that goes by the name Stonepaw will be mentored by another."

Sunnypaw was relieved that Blackleaf was still her mentor, but what about Stonepaw? Would Redfern or perhaps Tangleheart be chosen.

"Grim! You mentor him." Deathstar declared. He was about to pad away when Herbscent called. "As leader you must allow them to acknowledge it by touching noses." Deathstar glared. "I am leader. NOT you."

Herbscent bowed her head then Hollowtree rasped. "Sir, I'm afraid Goldbark is no longer able to hunt, please allow us to hunt for him." she begged.

"He'll hunt or die." Deathstar grinned. Oakfoot faced Hollowtree as Herbscent ran after Deathstar to try and convince him on how to properly run a clan. "We'll figure something out." Oakfoot licked her ear and led her away. Sunnypaw sighed.

"Poor Goldbark, we got to help." she looked pleadingly at her brother. Stonepaw looked from the elders to Sunnypaw. "Well--" He was cut off by Grim.

"You pathetic scum! Let's go!" He hissed. Stonepaw sighed and licked Sunnypaw's cheek. "We'll think of something, I'll be back." He promised.

Sunnypaw yowled. "Be careful." She feared for her brother. Once he left she padded to the nursery, but as she did she heard a hiss from Dustfall. "You stupid kit!" Sunnypaw was shocked. Surely she wasn't talking to Hurricanekit ? She raced into the nursery and saw Dustfall towering over her kit, Hurricanekit 's eyes were wide with fear and confusion, between them lay a mouse.

"Mama?" Hurricanekit mewed. Sunnypaw leaped to his side. "Dustfall, what are you doing?" She demanded.

The sand colored cat looked around wildly, her fur was a mess and she reeked. "This stupid kit won't eat." She snapped.

Sunnypaw was surprised. "He's too young to be put onto prey. He needs your milk. He needs you!" She insisted. Hurricanekit looked from his mother to Sunnypaw, who now was holding him gently.

"He should be dead! Like his sister and father!" Dustfall snarled and unsheathed her claws. "But if they won't kill him...i will!" Sunnypaw shoved Hurricanekit behind her and took the blow then surged forward, barreling the she-cat over and pinning her.

"Listen to yourself! He's your kit!" She yelled. By now a few she-cats must of overheard the noise, cause Raindrop and Redfern entered and pushed Sunnypaw off Dustfall.

"What's going on?" Raindrop demanded. "What are you doing to Hurricanekit?" Both she-cats looked puzzled. Sunnypaw stomped over and pulled  Hurricanekit towards her, he was crying.

"She wants to abandon him." Sunnypaw mewed bitterly.

Dustfall looked suddenly old and defeated. "He looks so much like his father..." She looked at the ground and sighed. "This life is not for him. I lost one kit...i won't lose another." She looked up sorrowfully. Not even looking at Hurricanekit again, she padded out of the nursery ignoring her son's cries for his mother. Redfern sighed and ran after her, but Raindrop stayed.

Sunnypaw patted the kit and tried to calm him. "I'll watch over him. He'll have to eat prey." She mewed. Raindrop nodded and left. Sunnypaw realized none of the she-cats appeared to care anymore. Looking over she noticed one of the toms outside talking to Dustfall, he was flirting with her! So, this was another reason she left her kit.

"Well, i won't leave you." She promised.
